Allspice is a dried unripe berry of the Pimenta dioicatree. Sarvasugandhi's origin is Central and South America but it's most closely connected with the West Indies island of Jamaica. As Jamaica exports the majority of allspice for consumption around the world, it is also called as Jamaica pepper.
The name Sarvasugandi(allspice) is given for the spice as it has combining aroma and benefits of Cinnamon, Nutmeg and Cloves. Allspice is the most important ingredient in aromatic Biriyanis. This spice is used mainly in food items like sweet or savory dishes to improve its flavor.
